Story

Events of Aria of Sorrow

When the seer Nostradamus predicted Dracula's final defeat in 1999, he also foresaw that in the year 2035, a new master would come to his castle and inherit the powers of the Dark Lord. Yoko was sent by the Church to investigate the prophesy of Dracula's rebirth, and together with her associate, Genya Arikado, traveled to the Hakuba Shrine. When they entered the Shrine, they were transported to Dracula's Castle, which had been sealed away in a solar eclipse after the Demon Castle Wars.

While exploring the castle alone, she encountered a young man, named Soma Cruz. After introducing herself, she revealed to him that Genya had told her about him. In addition, he said that Yoko should aid the high school student if he was in trouble, but Soma found this hard to believe due to Arikado's cold demeanor. According to her, Genya was a decent person, although he might seem cold at first; he was probably looking out for the youth because they both shared the same dark powers. Soma was shocked by this notion, but Yoko assured him that he could decide for himself whether to use his powers for good or evil. He thanked her for making himself a bit more confident about the situation, which flattered her, since she wasn't used to being thanked. She then asked if he had seen a man named Graham Jones, which he confirmed. Yoko warned him to be wary of that man, because she suspected that he sought to inherit Dracula's powers. She then took her leave and continued searching for the potential Dark Lord.

Yoko trying to convince Soma Cruz that Graham Jones is a great threat.

She met Soma again at the Clock Tower, who informed her that he had a run in with Graham and directed her to the Throne Room. He apologised for not realising that the man was a threat sooner. His attitude towards Soma completely changed after Soma told him about his powers. Yoko told him that was probably because Graham already considered himself to be the Lord of the castle and didn't want anyone to compete with him and crush his ambition. Though, this was for the better, since Soma's presence had thrown the usually shrewd and collected man into panic, which caused him to give away his location. She quickly rushed off in order to trap him.

At the the Underground Reservoir, she met up with Graham and battled him. She thought he wouldn't be much of a threat, but the she didn't know that he had absorbed the castle's power, which caused his powers to increase even more. He was able to inflict a fatal wound when Soma suddenly entered. Graham vanished, and Soma knelt down to her. She thanked him for rescuing her and informed him about Graham's increase in strength. Yoko then passed out but was saved by Genya Arikado, who was able to treat her wounds and save her life. Yoko was too hurt to offer any assistance. Instead, she used her remaining powers to contact Soma through his mind and encouraged him not to give in to his dark side. Her efforts were a success and the threat of a new Dark Lord was thwarted.

Events of Dawn of Sorrow

One year later, Yoko was ordered to investigate a cult named With Light whose members longed for the second coming of a Dark Lord. Together with the vampire hunter, Julius Belmont, she traveled to the cult's castle in order to stop their vile scheme. When they arrived at the drawbridge, they encountered Soma, who had also become involved in the matter. Yoko explained their mission and pleaded him to go back as their was no reason for him to be there. The youth was determined to press on and had no intention of withdrawing, which - much to her surprise - Julius accepted. The vampire hunter then took his leave and ordered Yoko to stay behind and act as a contact for Soma, much to her protest. She then had no choice but to take her residence in the nearby village and asked Soma to be her escort.

For the remainder of the mission, Yoko would stay in the village, and occasionally aided Soma by teaching him about the importance of magic seals, which could be used to draw in dark power, assisting him during combat by fusing weaponry with souls that he collected, sparing souls in order to create even more powerful weapons, providing inside information and supporting him. Eventually, Soma was able to defeat the cult and she greeted him after he was transported out of the crumbling castle.
