Story

Events of Aria of Sorrow

Crowds of spectators were gathering around in anticipation of the first full solar eclipse of the 21st century and Mina and Soma were among them. They entered the sacred Hakuba Shrine while the solar eclipse was approaching totality and were suddenly knocked unconscious only to awaken inside a mysterious castle. There she encountered the federal agent Genya Arikado who she had already known for ten years. He informed her that they were in Dracula's Castle, which had been sealed away in the eclipse 36 years prior. Arikado wanted to ask Soma some urgent questions and waited until he regained consciousness. When he came to, Arikado informed him of their whereabouts and asked why he had come to the castle. Although the youth was confused at first, Mina told him to trust the man. He was just about to further explain himself when suddenly a winged skeleton attacked Mina, causing her to faint.

Mina reassuring Soma that she will be alright in the courtyard of the Castle Corridor.

Soma was nowhere to be seen when she awoke but noticed that a magic barrier prevented monsters from doing any harm. Luckily, Soma came visiting her soon after and told that he had gained magic powers and was on a quest for something very important. She understood and told him to be careful. Throughout his journey, she served as a contact between him and Arikado which, greatly helped Soma proceed further inside the demon castle. Mina started to feel more tired and exhausted the longer she stayed within its walls, passing out occasionally and losing control of her arms and legs, but shrugged it off as nothing important.

When Soma came back yet again, a feeling of dread came over her and said that he looked scary. He responded that nothing had happened and asked how she would feel if he wasn't himself anymore. Mina was naturally confused by this question and asked what was wrong with him. He rambled about being different from the inside but told her to forget that immediately after. She said if that was the case, she might not like him anymore. He then told her to forgive him if he ever changed while rushing off, leaving her puzzled.

Arikado, along with other allies of Soma, arrived and informed her that Soma was Dracula reborn and that he was struggling with his dark side at that very moment. With the help of her friend, Yoko Belnades, they were able to contact Soma through his mind and encouraged him not to give in.

When the battle was over, Soma came out victorious and they were all transported out of the crumbling castle. Soma thanked her for her support and Mina said she was glad that his experience hadn't changed him; he dryly responded that he was now much cooler. Dracula's powers were still lingering inside him, and Mina promised to come to his aid if something would happen again. They then watched on as the eclipse was ending.

Events of Dawn of Sorrow

One year had passed since the ordeal inside the solar eclipse and Mina and Soma walked the streets of Hakuba while discussing the events that had transpired one year earlier. All of a sudden, a woman named Celia Fortner appeared who wished for Soma to be eliminated. She summoned monsters from the underworld and Soma was forced to fight them, resulting in him regaining his magical powers once again. Arikado made his presence known during the battle and afterward explained that Soma was now a target of a cult named Wight Light, who wanted to eliminate him and claim the Power of Dominance. The agency that Arikado worked for had ordered him to start an investigation, and he did not want Soma or Mina to get involved in the matter.

Soma was determined to embark on a new quest despite the warnings, but Mina wouldn't join him and entrusted Arikado with a talisman instead. She wanted Soma to have it for when the situation required its use. It would prove to be vital in preventing Soma from becoming the new Dark Lord and ultimately coming out victorious. The two reunited at the outskirts of the crumbling castle and shared a tender moment, to much amusement of their friends.
