Lyudmil is an and old friend and (self-proclaimed) servant of Alucard before he gave up his humanity and became a vampire. He greatly admired Lisa, who saved his parents from an illness, and despises humans for what they did to her.

Story
Before Castlevania
When Lisa was about to be arrested by the authorities, Lyudmil tried to save her, but he failed, and she was ultimately crucified. His parents were also executed because of supposed connection to witches. Lyudmil was banished from the village for trying to free a sentenced criminal and he wandered the countryside while grief-stricken.
One night, Lyudmil traveled to the castle of Count Dracula. where he suspected to find Lisa's son, Alucard. He hoped to lend Alucard his services. When he arrived at Alucard's quarters, he insisted upon staying by his side while referring to him as Master. Alucard told Lyudmil to stop calling him by that title and that his normal name would do just fine. He asked why he had come to the castle and Lyudmil told him about Lisa and how he felt about her tragedy. He expressed his hate of humanity, but Alucard told him not to despise them, which, in turn, was said by his mother.
Following Dracula's revenge upon mankind, Lyudmil lost contact with Alucard and they wouldn't meet again until 350 years later. He wandered the ages and eventually encountered an Incubus named Magnus. Magnus hypnotized him and planned to use him as a pawn in his plan in order to make a recently awoken Alucard the new Dark Lord. Lyudmil was ordered to attack young maidens in a village near where the dhampir was living.
Events of Nocturne of Reminiscence
Lyudmil encountered Alucard again in the woods around the village where he had attacked the village women. With Alucard were vampire hunters Richter Belmont, Ciryl Marquis, and Alexis, who had been investigating the recent murders. Lyudmil told that the recent deaths were his doing and then engaged Richter in battle while Ciryl went to a wounded Alexis to make sure Alexis wouldn't die from his wounds. Magnus was planning on luring Alucard to his father's side again by playing on his emotions. Magnus had Alucard come in contact with Lyudmil, hoping that the dhampir would give in to his darker half.
While Lyudmil was fighting Richter, the vampire summoned an enormous flock of bats and commanded them to attack his enemy. Richter tried to fight them and was almost overwhelmed. Then a girl named Maria Renard made her entrance and tried to save Alucard, who had been hypnotized by Magnus. While being attacked by the Incubus, she created a blast of light that released Lyudmil from Magnus' hypnosis. The vampire came to his senses and realised he was manipulated by Magnus and turned against him, once again summoning a flock of bats. During the fight, he was mortally wounded and fell to the ground.
At the last moment, Alexis came rushing to the scene of battle and shouted at Richter to smash Magnus' claws, because those were the source of his powers. Richter did so, and Magnus was defeated by Alucard. Lyudmil then struggled to call out to his old friend, and the dhampir then came to his side. He apologised for what Alucard had to go through and Alucard in turn asked for forgiveness for not being able to save him despite being his Master. Lyudmil declared that he would remain by Alucard's side forever and then faded away while the former bade him farewell.
