Story
Events of Castlevania 64
One day, Carrie sensed the return of the Dark Lord Dracula and traveled to his castle in Wallachia. While on her way, she encountered a young vampire hunter named Reinhardt Schneider, a descendant of the Belmont Clan who carried the legendary Vampire Killer whip. After the two heroes reached the towers located at the outer wall of the castle, Lord Dracula appeared and warned them to turn back or die a horrible death.
While they wandered the castle grounds, Carrie and Reinhardt stumbled upon an old and seemingly abandoned villa. While exploring, they found a room where a field of red roses grew. Suddenly, a young woman entered the room and asked them to step aside so that she could water the roses. The two heroes asked what she was doing in there and she introduced herself as Rosa, the one who looked after the red roses that grew there. She then tipped her can, which contained blood instead of water. Carrie and Reinhardt asked in disbelief if she was a vampire and Rosa responded by asking why they had fear. Rosa warned them that wandering around carelessly would soon cost them their lives. Reinhardt commented that he could never disobey his father's teachings to never attack the weak and Carrie pointed out that Rosa was somehow different from the creatures they had encountered earlier. The flower girl said that sentimentality would not help them and assured them that she would forget ever seeing them. The two heroes both gave their reasons why they couldn't leave, which the vampire understood. She explained how to proceed further to Dracula's Castle and directed them to the villa's archives. Before fading away, she told them that they needed to find a key, which another adventurer took in order to enter the archives.
They went in search of this adventurer and found him exploring the rooms of the villa. When the man noticed them, he rose his crucifix and told them not to move. After examining them, he concluded that they were human and introduced himself as Charlie Vincent, the mightiest of all vampire hunters. He commented that they looked like villagers and asked if they had lost their way in the forest. The two hunters explained that they had come there in order to put an end to Dracula, but the old man was not impressed. He told them to leave the Dark Lord to him, as Dracula was not the sort of opponent for an amateur vampire hunter and a little girl. Reinhardt calmly responded that the vampire was not to be taken lightly, but Carrie lost her temper and told the man not to speak of matters that didn't concern him. An offended Charlie called her an obstinate youth and then told her that he wouldn't give another warning. Reinhardt interfered and asked the man if he had the key to the archives, which the man confirmed. He had found it in the rose garden and gave it to them before taking off.
In the archives they found the key that led to the maze garden, but before leaving the mansion, they stumbled on a contract laying on the floor. Suddenly, a man appeared behind them who asked if they might have seen a scroll around there. After the contract was handed to him, the man introduced himself as Renon. Renon offhandedly referred to himself as a demon, but when he noticed the surprise of the duo, he quickly explained that he was there to help by providing items in exchange for a price. The demon salesman said that when the need would arise, the scroll could be used to summon him, and then disappeared.
While in the garden, the two heroes heard the sound of bushes rustle and quickly turned around to see a young boy who asked them for help. The child's name was Malus. He told of how his mother and father were killed during an attack on his village. All the children had been taken hostage, but a man in a dark cloak was looking for one specific child. Malus couldn't remember the rest and Reinhardt and Carrie said that he had to rest. Suddenly, an enormous dog came rushing towards them and Malus quickly ran off in terror. The two quickly followed him and managed to bring him to safety. They led the boy to an exit of the garden and told him to watch out for the demons in the forest. After seeing the child off, they found a key that would help them continue their mission. It allowed them entry to an underground passageway. There were two separate paths that lay ahead of them and the duo decided to split up and explore the two areas on their own. They separated for the time being and Reinhardt headed to an underground mine while Carrie decided to travel through a tunnel instead.
Within its dark depths, she encountered a vampire witch named Actrise, who commented on the almost terrifying power that Carrie radiated and that it would be a shame to slay her there. The witch offered Carrie a place at her side, as Carrie's power would be of great use to the forces of darkness. Actrise then commented that she would give Carrie some time to think it over, but warned her to choose carefully, then Actrise disappeared.
Carrie met up with Reinhardt again at the Castle Center, but they were unable to proceed further because a wall was blocking their path. While investigating, they found a lizard man who was willing to help them. The creature explained that he was turned into a monster by Dracula's followers and said that the two heroes needed Magical Nitro and Mandragora in order to blow up the wall. He informed them that the Mandragora could be found in the Torture Chamber and gave them a key that allowed entry.
In the room, they encountered Malus again and asked what he was still doing in that dangerous place. The boy was seemingly confused and didn't give a clear answer. He asked if they had come to avenge his family and rescue his friend, which the duo confirmed. Much to their bewilderment, Malus burst into laughter and said that that was impossible. He taunted them, saying that they would find their end and that darkness would rule the world once more before he left. The two heroes were stunned, but they eventually continued their search for the Magical Nitro.
In the room behind the wall, they found a crystal that could activate an elevator that could lead to two towers. Carrie and Reinhardt wanted to explore them both, but only one tower at the time could be accessed by the elevator. They were forced to split up again and Carrie decided to venture inside the Tower of Science.
She encountered Actrise on the way to the elevator and the vampire asked Carrie if she had thought about the offer. Carrie made it clear that she refused Actrise's invitation. To punish the girl for her refusal, Actrise presented Carrie's cousin, who had been affected with the curse of the vampires. She explained that Carrie's cousin had also attempted to battle her Lord, but his forces managed to capture her alive and she was sired. Actrise ordered the vampire to attack her cousin. Carrie didn't wish to fight her former relative at first, but she eventually realised that she had no other choice and was able to overpower her. The Belnades warrior died in a ray of light and Carrie said that although she couldn't save her, she would go to a better place and live there with her mother.
Carrie caught up with Actrise in the Room of Clocks where they had their final showdown. There, the dark sorceress made her offer one final time, saying that it was a simple matter; sacrificing the lives of one hundred children was all it took. She told Carrie about how she had given up her child for eternal beauty. Carrie refused once again and explained that, although she was adopted, her mother had given her life to save Carrie's, showing that she had really loved her. Carrie declared that giving up the lives of loved ones for personal gain was pitiful. Actrise then sarcastically responded that Carrie made her sad. Actrise loved no one but herself and was not bothered by family ties. The witch then attacked after declaring that she would sacrifice Carrie's heart to Lord Dracula. Actrise's efforts eventually proved to be inadequate, and before she died, she pondered how she could have taken Carrie so lightly.
At the Castle Keep, Carrie was reunited with Reinhardt and together they pressed on to Dracula's Throne Room. They had almost reached the doors that led them to the Dark Lord when Renon appeared from the shadows. He announced that he was about to take his leave, but there was a small business matter that he had to deal with. He asked the heroes if they had ever read the contract they used in order to buy the goods Renon sold. Renon explained that they had signed a contract with the devil, and because the duo had spent over 30,000 gold pieces, they had to give up their souls. The demon salesman revealed his true form and was planning on dragging the two hunters to the underworld, but his plan was thwarted when the hunters defeated him.
Upon reaching the Throne Room, they had an encounter and skirmish with the Dark Lord. He fell to his knees and mocked the two heroes one final time by asking if they really believed that they had won. He declared that saving the world was no simple task and that darkness would rule the world; he then died in a ray of light. They believed that they had fulfilled their mission and quickly made their way through the crumbling castle. At a lone tower, they found Malus once again. They sensed an evil aura coming from the boy and asked Malus who he truly was. They boy declared that he was actually Dracula reborn and that the vampire the two fought earlier was merely his servant, Gilles de Rais.
The three battled, but Dracula was eventually brought down to his knees and turned to mist. Malus suddenly materialized and pretended to have been possessed. Before Carrie and Reinhardt came close to him, Malus was hit with holy water, which engulfed his flesh. An arriving Charlie Vincent explained that Malus was the real Dracula and that his childlike appearance was a trick. His plan thwarted again, the Dark Lord used his remaining power to transport Reinhardt and Carrie to a different realm and turned into an enormous demon. Despite his efforts, Dracula was defeated once again and his plan was ruined.
After the gigantic monster was sucked back into the Chaos Realm, Carrie and Reinhardt were transported to the safety of a nearby mountain cliff. Carrie witnessed the reunion of Reinhardt and Rosa and said her goodbyes afterward. She then met with a carriage-owning peasant who brought her to the grave of her adoptive mother. While at the grave, she reflected on her adventure while placing a bouquet at the headstone, then set off knowing that all the children of Wallachia had no reason to be afraid anymore.
